Aerospace Professionals In Schools Program Targets 50,000 Students during the School Year
Greetings Fellow OBAP Members,
I would like to formally introduce myself as the Chair of our Aerospace Professionals In Schools Program. For those of you who I have not had the opportunity to meet, my name is Donald Gardner and I have been a member of OBAP since 2005. I am currently a First Officer with Compass Airlines and am very delighted to have the opportunity to be at the helm of this program. I believe it is one of the highlights of our organization and provides a unique opportunity to provide today’s youth with a perspective of the exciting career opportunities which exist, in the aviation and aerospace industry.
I truly believe this program has the ability to expand and in order to help accomplish this task, I would like to ask for your assistance as members. While I realize we all have busy schedules as working professionals, I would like to encourage each of you to make at least two school visits per year. After completing a school visit, please complete an Aerospace Professionals In Schools After Action Report utilizing Aerospace Professionals In Schools Tab on the OBAP website. One of the most important components of our Aerospace Professionals In Schools Program is our record keeping. In order to ensure we are reaching out to the youth in our communities, it is important that we maintain a database so we may have an accurate measurement of our outreach activity.
I would like to thank all of you who have filled out an After Action Report. If you have not done so, I would like to request that you complete the form or send information via an email to apis@obap.org. When sending the email please include your name, date of the school visit, school name or event, city, school contact person, and region so that we may add the visit to our records. Also, if you have any photos of your school visit that you wish to have published on the OBAP website or on Facebook, please email them so we may post them online.
If you are interested in volunteering, please email me and copy the national office at nationaloffice@obap.org so we may add your name to our database of professional volunteers for future events. In your email be sure include your name, contact information, and member region (Southeast, Midwest, etc). Once again thank you for all of your efforts and I look forward to seeing all of you at a future event!
